RIP John Barry (1933-2011)

Again is one of the Great died. On Sunday, composer John Barry died at the age of 77 from a heart attack.

Barry wrote the music for 11 of the James Bond films written - the Bond theme itself is indeed by Monty Norman, but was arranged by Barry (and provided military base happy, because Barry sometimes a part of the composition is attributed). His Bond scores are virtually a list of all the classic Bond films: Goldfinger, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, and so on. The remarkable thing is how independently it has become any of these soundtracks: Barry has produced for each film its own prominent themes and moods, so that each of his music can also clearly one of the films will be assigned - in which other film series, the individual scores in each case much individual character?

alone for these 11 scores Barry deserves a safe place in Heldenpantheon. In a moment, casually, in the next high drama, always imaginative and an elegance and class that has become very rare (though also because elegance and class in action and adventure movies are in demand no more). Barry has also written for many other films notable scores: DANCES WITH WOLVES (for which he won an Oscar), BODY HEAT, the KING KONG remake of 1976, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, OUT OF AFRICA (also an Oscar), and and and. The IMDB lists 110 films for which he wrote music.

As is often written by the guys at Is not It Cool News a nice short tribute to Barry: " John Barry made all the Bond girls in my youth ... desirable, when I was not even sure what my desires were." Read here. Author Bill Martell, and a good set of high-torque Barry on his blog has culled.

Here are a fan compilation of my favorite score of Barry: THUNDERBALL . (The CD I've also heard on Sunday, then Monday and read the sad news.) The best part I find the dramatic theme that is heard at 1:15 - in the form of small and large through the whole score is woven.
